Ambergris Caye Directory
My first overnight trip to Caye Caulker could not have been a more pleasant one - taking in the “Go Slow” motto of the island’s village, strolling along the streets without worrying about traffic, sipping on lizard juice at the split and just enjoying the inescapable calm of the island. The pot of gold at the end of the rainbow was the sleeping accommodations at the Rainbow Hotel.
Hopkins Village lies 15 miles south of Dangriga in southern Belize. It is a cozy coastal enclave with about 12 miles of sandy beaches and home to Garifuna families who fish, carve canoes and weave baskets in the tradition of their ancestors.
It’s the secret everybody was talking about; what people were highly anticipating to be revealed as news of it spread throughout the country and abroad. And in October of this year Belize’s newest resort, El Secreto, was revealed to the world on Ambergris Caye.
Captain Morgan's Retreat packs luxury living into rustic surroundings; it’s packed with all the comforts of modern living and luxurious accommodations but still manages to keep an island charm.
“Beachfront on a budget” this is how a visitor described Corona del Mar Hotel and Apartment which boasts great budget accommodations with the luxury of being right next to the beach. There is nothing more that you can ask for when you visit Ambergris Caye - a tranquil environment with a perfect view of the blue Caribbean Sea.
Spindrift Hotel is one of San Pedro’s feel at home hotels. Nestled in the center of San Pedro Town right on the beach on the island of Ambergris Caye, this long-standing hotel on Ambergris Caye is ideal if you want to be in the center of it all.
Tranquility Bay Resort - where the horizon is at your fingertips and you can swim towards the sunrise. And I am speaking literally because the resort’s location is what makes this place in Paradise so unique.
The grandeur of Grand Caribe is like nothing that you have seen before on Ambergris Caye. From when you walk into the reception, step out onto the compound or walk into one of the rooms, ‘Grand’ is definitely a word that comes to mind.
This past weekend we were back on our mission to find the best accommodations on the island and write about our experience in Ambergris Today’s new column “Room Service”. And boy did we find a good one to write about! Milo Paz was very kind to invite our staff to a wonderful experience at one of the island’s newest accommodations – Ambergris Lake Villas.
Reading through the history of Ramon’s Village I got to know about how the resort (originally Ramon’s Reef Resort) was built in 1961, only to have been destroyed by Hurricane Hattie the night after its completion. It sat in ruin for 20 years after that, until a group of investors built 10 cabañas, dug the sand out of the pool, opened the restaurant and resumed business.
