Fiesta Time at Elvi’s Kitchen
I could not resist but to wear my traditional Mexican Guayabera as the staff of Ambergris Today headed to Elvi’s Kitchen to experience their new themed night that is Fiesta Mexicana. Who does not like a fiesta? Everybody knows that San Pedro can throw a mean party! Well Elvi’s Kitchen just recently introduced Fiesta Mexicana on Wednesday nights – Mexican food at its best.
And it felt very appropriate to have worn my guayabera as the waiting staff at Elvi’s Kitchen were all decked out in full Mexican attire. The ladies wear the typical Mexican folklore dresses while the men are all neat and tidy with their Charro attire. There is even a Mariachi singer who serenades the diners and sets the mood for that authentic Mexican experience.
Even before the appetizers were set on the table we kick started the fun with a shot of tequila! Viva Mexico! Viva Elvi’s Kitchen! If something would set the mood for Fiesta Mexicana, tequila would be it. But that is just optional for those who like tequila! What is a must is Elvi’s Kitchen is their Jamaica Margarita. WOW! Next to their frozen Margarita – the bartenders have it down when it comes to the Mexican drinks. The secret ingredient – shhhh, is Chef Jennie’s homemade Jamaica flower reduction. You will be asking for the frozen delight all night long.
Fiesta Mexicana is all about the celebration of Mexico’s culinary excellence and Chef Jennie Staines has a fantastic menu filled with sabor (flavor)! Hash fish (fish hashed with tomatoes, onions and other seasonings), cheese stuffed jalapeños (comes with citrus dipping sauce, yum), nachos (with spicy beef drizzled in sour cream, melted cheeses, beans and salsa) and fish empanadas (turnovers made from seasoned masa filled with savory fish and served with cabbage relish) made it to our table in round one – Appetizers!
But the main dish at Fiesta Mexicana is the Mexican platter that just screams “Aye Chihuahua!” Let me get down to it – you could not ask for more flavors in one platter than this one:
Mexican Rice w/ peas and corn, pulled pork tacos w/ salsa and tomato relish, Mexican beef tacos with guacamole sauce, chicken salbutes, refried beans with Mexican white cheese and grilled lobster, fish and shrimp! I said it before and I say it again, WOW!
That was round two; for round three there are other great Mexican dishes on the menu to choose from, like a serving of four tacos of your choice. There is the Chipotle Shrimp Tacos (grilled with butter and served with cabbage relish), Maya Fish Tacos (grilled with adobo sauce served with cabbage and tomato relish), Mexican Beef Tacos, Mango Chipotle Bar-B-Q Tacos (topped with Mango relish), Crispy Fish Tacos, Pulled Pork Pibil Tacos and the Belizean Tacos (Fish or chicken grilled with a spice rub, served on fry jack and topped with basil-mayo slaw). All the tacos are served with fresh home-made corn tortillas.
Oh! And you have to try the Margarita Shrimp; a sweat and tangy sauce smothers succulent shrimp which is served with steamed vegetables, white rice and plantain. This one comes highly recommended by us; it’s heavenly!
It is all the special touches that make dining at Elvi’s Kitchen a great experience, from the home-made habanero sauce that adds a kick to your dish, the creative dishes and innovative flavors that Chef Jennie has put together, the superb bartenders, to the great feeling you get from the ambiance and friendly staff. It all comes together perfectly; no wonder it is one of the top restaurants on the island and I would go as far as to say in the country!
So expect nothing but the best and the extraordinary from Elvi’s Kitchen. Join the fun at one, if not all, of their themed nights. – Fiesta Mexicana on Wednesdays, the amazing Maya Feast/Buffet on Fridays and a Pachanga Nite on Saturdays. Just when you think you have tried it all at Elvi’s Kitchen, they give you more! More food, more flavor, more fun!
