Sinfull Deliciousness at Caprice Bar and Grill

Maikel entertains during Mojito Friday at Caprice

The last thing I savored at Caprice Bar and Grill was dessert, so the first thing that comes to mind are the amazingly delicious sweets at this restaurant. I had three of them, yes THREE! And I still have not made up my mind which one is the best. Caprice just might have to put all three in one plate so that I can call a winner. WOW! Leave room for dessert when you dine at Caprice because you will not regret and never forget it.

Well, I’ll torture you a bit and leave dessert for last in this review; sorry! But undoubtedly San Pedro Holiday Hotel has transformed its restaurant and bar from something great to something even more spectacular. Celi’s Restaurant has given birth to Caprice Bar and Grill that now offers a fine dining experience in a chic outdoor environment. The dining room went from indoors to their outdoor deck that is perfectly shaded by UV protecting transparent blue material that sets the mood during the day as you enjoy the eye-popping ocean scenery of the blue Caribbean Sea.

Complementing the dining area are the elegant bar and modern lounge areas which boast an elegant waterwall, four separate lounging areas, mood lighting and large flat screen televisions. There you can enjoy skillfully made artisan cocktails including margaritas, mojitos and rum punch. Happy hour (half priced local rum drinks and $4beer specials) runs from Monday to Friday, 3-6p.m. We were there on Mojito Friday where all mojitos are at $10 (delish) and customers are dined with the cool and melodic music of Cuban entertainer Maikel.

Caprice Bar and Grill

Caprice’s cuisine centers on a Caribbean and Latin influenced menu and a majority of its items are from the sea, including their special for that evening, the ultra fresh Sesame Crusted Tuna that came with a risotto rice cake and drizzled with a garlic aioli balsamic reduction. It was the catch of the day and the tuna could not have been fresher. Tuna is placed on the specials when it becomes available but the dish can also be prepared with other fish, it’s just a matter of asking.

And since there was fresh tuna in the kitchen, we opted for a sashimi that could not have tasted any better – fresh, clean and delectable. Other appetizers that you must try are the Snapper cakes which are served with along with pineapple chutney; they are fried crispy on the outside with a superb tasting center.  The Chaya Artichoke Dip that is bursting with cheesy flavor is another appetizer you cannot resist after experiencing it once. That’s right! Caprice is not a ‘one time’ restaurant.  Your company will ask to return. Don’t leave Caprice without trying these two excellent appetizers. And don’t leave the Island without enjoying Caprice.

There are only two meat items on the menu - a Cabernet Braised Short Ribs which are simmered in a Cabernet wine sauce and Beef Kebabs what are marinated until very tender and delicious. The Coconut Shrimp are served along with a mango dipping sauce and the Stuffed Fish will leave you exactly that – Stuffed! Two fish fillets are stuffed with cheddar cheese, coated with a Belikin Beer batter and deep fried; need I say more?

Then there is the Divers Delight, it’s a trio of stone crab or grilled lobster (seasonal), grilled shrimp and grilled fish; it’s an amazing combination from the sea that can’t go wrong. (All entrées are served with optional side orders of potato, pasta marinara, Alfredo pasta, rice and beans or coconut rice.)

Caprice Bar and Grill

Are you ready for dessert? I have to say that Caprice has some of the best-tasting desserts in town. If you love Key Lime Pie, better have a taste of their Key Lime Cake! It’s a great variation of the pie but in cake form – layers of light cake and key lime delight; it’s GOOOOD! Equally divine is their Mango Coconut Cream Pie (super creamy, filled with mango and coconut flavor) and cheesecake lovers will be in heaven with the Banana Caramel Cheese Cake.

Ambergris Today’s evening of fine dining was made even more pleasant with the great smile, attentiveness and super friendly attitude of our server for the evening Patricia Romero who by far provided us with excellent service. Kudos to the San Pedro Holiday Hotel for making a transformation that not only enriches the culinary aspect of the island but that has also added a new element to the night life of San Pedro, Ambergris Caye.
