Seven Boys Graduate at Isla Bonita Elementary

Sunday, June 15, was a special evening at Isla Bonita Elementary - the graduation of seven intelligent young men, all ready to step up into high school secondary education. Such important event garnered the attendance of the staff, parents, friends, educators, and the honorable presence of Mayor Elsa Paz and Hon. Manuel Heredia, Area Rep and Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation.

A very young primary school, Isla Bonita’s graduation exemplifies that it is not large numbers that count but quality, enthusiasm, vision, and passion. The seven young men all spoke very intelligently with Hilal Nasser officiating as Master of Ceremonies. Mariano Guerrero conducted the first reading and Vince Pascassio so warmly gave the welcome address. Valedictorian Christino Nuñez Jr. spoke so nicely about their teachers and staff as well as the support they all got from parents.

Invited Guest Speaker was Mr. Dorian Nuñez, editor of Ambergris Today, who reminded everyone of the importance of elementary education and of making a good start in school with the fundamentals which are reading, spelling and writing and of course numbers and logic. Mr. Nuñez challenged parents and teachers to render much assistance to the early acquisition of the basics and congratulated Isla Bonita for doing a good job in this field.

Following the principal’s report, Principal Addy Martinez Trejo and Dorian Nuñez issued the certificates and the lovely evening came to an end with a thank you address by graduate Hector Trejo Jr.

After the ceremony, all parents and invited guests received the usual warm hospitality, which is now traditional of La Isla Bonita - a dinner party for all. Congratulations to Isla Bonita for a job well done in education.
