History of Immigration to Ambergris Caye (Part Four) -Benqueños
By Angel Nuñez By now you are realizing that San Pedro is a product of immigrants. We have traced all the way to 1200 to the days of the Mayas and then to 1848 when the Mestizos immigrated to the Island. From there it was just over one hundred years that the community of San Pedro remained a closed community with Mestizo families coming from Mexico and Corozal. In the 1940’s Sanpedranos made a stronger turn to fishing and by 1964 they had organized themselves to form the Caribeña Fishing cooperative Society Limited.
History of Immigration to Ambergris Caye (Part Two) The Mestizos
By Angel Nuñez After the gradual decline of the Mayas in Belize and their total absence on the Island of Ambergris Caye, this island was practically uninhabited. There was the presence of a few employees of those who claimed title and even an attempt to raise cattle and grow cotton on the island. Even these diminished, and the Island was practically vacant.
History of Immigration to Ambergris Caye (Part One)
By Angel Nunez It is claimed that the population of Ambergris Caye is about twenty thousand, and most people view this as a very large population. But wait a minute. I want to prove to you that it has been much bigger than that.

The Souls Of The Dead
By Angel Nuñez “Las Animas” are the souls of the dead. They are spirits? So where are they normally located? Well, make a good guess. They are probably resting in the cemetery beside the bodies of the dead. And why don’t we see them? The answer is simple- because they are spirits, but they make special outings in a procession during the entire month of November.

Old Timer or Modern Sanpedrano? #9
By Angel Nuñez YOU KNOW YOU ARE AN OLD TIMER SANPEDRANO IF:You remember that you had to study and do your homework immediately after school and finish before sunset because if you were caught by darkness then you had to force your eyes with a hurricane lantern or burn candles to do your homework. I used to particularly enjoy sitting on the wood steps, hang my feet in the air and use the steps as my table.

George Price and San Pedro
By Angel Nuñez The Right Honorable George Price visited San Pedro since the 1950’s and became very much acquainted and loved by all of San Pedro not only as a leader of the PUP but as a Statesman. For those of us who did not get to meet him personally, and those of us who do not know enough about him, except that he is the Father of Independence, here’s a small tribute to George Price by Twenty Five Years Ago.
