Farewell to Liborio "Lee" Ramiro Gomez
Dr. Liborio Ramiro “Lee” Gomez, PhD, age 78, passed away peacefully in his home in Atchison, Kansas, on November 21, 2019. Lee was born on March 11, 1941, in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, Belize, the son of Hilberto and Hilaria Gomez. He graduated from St. John’s College in Belize City before receiving a four-year scholarship to attend St. Benedict’s College in Atchison, Kansas. After completing his bachelor’s degree, he attended St. Louis University to attain his master’s degree and his Ph. D. in Spanish.

2020 Public and Bank Holidays for Belize
The Government of Belize Press Office has sent out a press release informing about the Public and Bank holidays for 2020. It is notified for general information that public and bank holidays specified in the First and the Second Schedules to the Holidays Act, Chapter 289 of the Laws of Belize, Revised Edition 2000 - 2003, will be observed on the following days during the year 2020 in accordance with section 3 of the said Act:-
Coral Reef Ed-Ventures is Back!
The 20th annual Coral Reef Ed-Ventures Summer Camp is returning to Ambergris Caye! The free, fun and educational camp is a collaboration between students from Smith College in Massachusetts, USA and the local Hol Chan Marine Reserve. The camp includes two programs that work to promote the conservation of the Belize Barrier Reef and teach island children about the coral and marine ecosystems. Everything is free and fun!

Preventing Childhood Obesity in Belize
Current efforts of the Belize Cancer Society has led to a partnership with the Office of the Special Envoy for Women and Children to highlight the prevalence of obesity within our child population in Belize. With its inception in 2017,The Healthy Caribbean Coalition's (HCC's) Civil Society Action Plan 2017-2021: Preventing Childhood Obesity in the Caribbean has been geared towards the recognition and response to non-communicable diseases with its main focus being the consistent rise in cases of obesity within children.
