Press Release - BELIZE CITY, August 15, 2020 - The unexpected and untimely passing of proud Belizean, Luis Romero, Sr., has the Romero family and friends devastated and seeking answers. On paper, Luis is listed as “Patient #3” of COVID-19 related deaths in the country of Belize. However, if Luis is going to become a statistic in the country he so loved cherished, it is the hope of the Romero family that his death is the one that incites and influences change.

The Ministry of Health of Belize confirmed this afternoon, Friday, August 14, 2020, one death associated to COVID-19, the third one for the country. The person has been identified at 52-year-old Luis Romero Senior who passed away at the KHMH’s ICU and his diagnosis had just been confirmed this afternoon. He was less than 12 hours in the ICU.

In a unique case, the Ministry reports that a COVID-19 positive female delivered a baby yesterday and both mom and baby are okay. Plus, there are six patients hospitalizes with one person having to be intubated.

- Press Release - On August 11, 2020, the Belize Coast Guard Headquarters was informed by the Ministry of Health that one of our sailors was confirmed to be positive for the novel corona virus. The infected sailor is in quarantine and recovering under the supervision of health officials.

The Ministry of Health has just release its new numbers pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic and the numbers remain high for San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. A total of 84 samples have been processed, the last remaining batch will be processed throughout the night. In this batch there are a total of 33 positive cases with the breakdown as follows: - 31 cases in San Pedro (related to the three active clusters) - 1 case in Belize City (related to a previously identified cases in Belmopan)

A total of 144 samples have been processed throughout the day. There is a total of 23 new positive cases with a preliminary breakdown as follows: - 1 case in Caye Caulker (with no apparent link to any previously identified case for now) - 12 news cases in San Pedro - 3 cases in Belmopan (2 are linked to the previous identified positive case in Belmopan and the other case is linked to San Pedro) - 2 cases in Orange Walk (1 from Santa Marta and 1 from Orange Walk Town linked to a previously identified case)

Press Release - As part of its continuing response to the issues surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic, and in keeping with its commitment to the health and wellness of its customers and employees, Tropic Air, has added an Ultraviolet C (UV-C) light sterilization process to its aircraft cleaning protocol. This is in addition to the enhanced chemical and disinfectant cleaning procedures for aircraft, equipment and facilities implemented in February.

Ministry of Health has just updated activities related to the three active COVID-19 clusters in San Pedro Ambergris Caye. Each cluster has identified a common source where infection started and the spread continued thereafter. Cluster #1 is linked to activities at Allure Nightclub; Cluster #2 is related to Living Word Church and Cluster #3 is related to workers from Medina’s Construction Site.

These are the faces of COVID-19 warriors who are not just fighting a personal battle with the disease, but also a public stigma that has brought out the worse in some members of the community.

Island DJ Abner Diaz, known as DjSmallz reached out to his community of San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, on a Facebook post, announcing that he has tested positive for SARS COVID-19. “Well I am finally here to tell you all that YES I am a COVID-19 Positive ... I just got my results so that’s why I didn’t post anything before. So to you all out there just please wear your mask wash your hands and keep safe.”

For the second time in a week, we have to report a record number of identified positive cases for one single day. A total of 121 samples were processed today, August 6, 2020, some of these are still contacts from San Pedro, the northern districts and from the enhanced surveillance that is currently ongoing countrywide. After a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases in Belize, in particular San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, the Government of Belize has decided to implement an emergency proclamation for the entire country that includes a 14-day Quarantine Lockdown for San Pedro, Ambergris Caye and parts of the Orange Walk District, only.

The Office of the Director of Health Services in Belize has just released new numbers in the COVID-19 cases in the country. They have identified a further 14 cases today, this is the second highest number of cases after yesterday's record of 15. Thirteen of those cases are in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. Fifty-one (51) samples were processed today August 5, for SARS-CoV2. The breakdown is as follows:

Today the BNTU sent out the following press release, advising teachers to remain out the classroom due to the rise in COVID-19 cases in the country. The date set for the reopening of schools on Monday August 10, 2020.

During the mapping process for COVID-19 patient #57 identified in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye,  on Sunday, August 2, sixty (60) individuals were identified of having contact with the 31-year-old female. Out of those, 50 individuals were swabbed and samples have been taken for testing. Results of those samples are expected to be released tomorrow midday, Wednesday.

Stricter laws for mandatory mask wearing might be underway in Belize as more cases of COVID-19 have increased this past week. Just yesterday, Sunday, August 2, 2020, a new corona virus infection case was confirmed in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, involving a female with no history of travel. This increases the fear of community spread cases in the country.

Approximately four months after Belize announced its first COVID-19 case in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, (March 22, 2020) a new corona virus case emerges on La Isla Bonita, San Pedro. The case involves a female who is experiencing symptoms of the sickness.

The announcement was made today July 29, 2020, as Commander Captain Elton Bennett is away in the United Kingdom studying for one year. Lieutenant Commander Alma Pinelo will be holding over for Vice Commandant Commander Gregory Soberanis, who assumes command as Acting Commandant
