The San Pedro National Garifuna Council has announced it calendar of events for this year’s Garifuna Settlement Day. Under the theme “Our Aspirations still are many; Let’s Keep Going Forward” the following events will take place here in San Pedro.
Thursday, 17 November 2011 – Cultural Drumming
*Cultural Food Sale – Hudut
Friday, 18 November 2011 – Culture Night Show
*Garifuna Settlement Day Ceremonies, Live Band – Punta Rock Music, 4th Annual Battle of the Drums/all night drumming starting at 7:00 p.m. at Central Park
Saturday, 19 November 2011- Garifuna Settlement Day Celebrations
*The re-enactment of Garifuna arrival at 6:00 a.m.
*Thanksgiving Mass
*Cultural Parade around San Pedro Town at 2:00 p.m.
*Live Band – Punta Rock Music
*Cultural Activities at the Central Park

yet a sweet gal.... living with polio...in her wheelchair...in san pedro...has had no help whatsoever....from any garifuna council,,thruout belize...with her attempt to obtain/secure, legal permits from the councils for her garifuna-culture oriented sales buisness. she has had total financial backing , to start up the buisness, once the documents have been secured.... for the past 3 years...!!
and yet nothing but promises ... which appear to be lies.....from the presidents of councils contacted, thruout belize.
i know shamefull..... and this is it....
to shun a sure win venture.....one which could almost instantly ensure the whole family's benifit...well.... whats to say.... the obvious....shamefull.......!!!
is it some port of phobia against those that may be concidered...in some peoples eyes...to be crippled.....as was the case with san pedro's best night club.s attitude toward the wheelchair persons...[''not welcome'']
well the 4th year for garifuna days....are here.....and celibrations will be held all over the country......but will this young womans buisness be thriving... across the nation as part of the ''big-oup wi own''........nope....
tru... the celebrations/party the councils organize are always great...the food the music/drumming... the cultural songs....the dancin... the costumes..........thats all really , real kool....great cultual stuff.......FROM SOME EXTREAMLY GREAT FRIENDS/PEOPLE.....but that seems to be garifuna ''glitter''....wheres the substance....?
