In a press release issued this week, the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, on behalf of the Government of Belize, congratulated the team at Tropic Air for having been awarded the International Airport Transport Association’s (IATA) Standard Safety Assessment Certificate at the Latin America and Caribbean Air Transport Association Annual General Meeting, held in November of 2015.
“This is the first such acknowledgement to be awarded to an Americas-based airline, and it gives us great pleasure to have a Belizean-owned carrier pioneer the way forward in our region.” stated the press release.
Tropic Air boasted being the first airline to obtain IATA Standard Safety Assessment (ISSA) certification in Latin America. Tony Tyler, ALTA President said, "Earlier this year we launched the IATA Standard Safety Assessment (ISSA). While ISSA is not a substitute for IOSA, it is a valuable operational benchmark. Tropic Air was among the first airlines to express interest in ISSA and they helped us to beta-test the standard, so congratulations to Tropic Air."
The IATA Standard Safety Assessment is a voluntary evaluation program extending benefits of operational safety and efficiency to operators of smaller aircraft that are not eligible for the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), carried out for the larger airlines.
This program contributes to increased emphasis on improving safety management, and aligning them with global best practices, ensuring a convenient and safe travel experience for passengers.
