The Fin K Project Mother’s Day Soup Kitchen organized by Findely Halliday was a major success as it was able to accommodate about 200 mothers and even 50 children for brunch on Mother’s Day at the San Pedro Lions Den on May 10, 2015.
After a successful soup kitchen that Findley organized on Christmas Day 2014, he was back at organizing another one for Mother’s Day in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize. With the help of volunteers and business donations Findley was able to organize a wonderful event to who appreciation to less-fortunate mother in the community.
Most of the food items were provided by Findley and with the help of local restaurant, it was prepared for the soup kitchen brunch. Moms enjoyed baked ham, pancakes and even homemade tamales among other delicious treats. Wings Department Store donated 200 perfumes that were individually wrapped with candy and other lotions and those were given out as gifts to all the moms on their special day.
“A lot of moms hugged and gave us blessing as they were surprised by the simplest of gesture of love that they received,” commented Findley. “The best reward we got was getting a ‘Thank You’ and seeing the spark in their eyes. At the end of the day we just wanted MOMS to know that there are people who do care for them. I know it’s simple, but by gathering people together we create LOVE and with love, we can make a stronger community.”
At the end of the day, there were about 50 plates of leftover food and about 100 gifts that were distributed to needy families in the San Mateo neighborhood, just across the Boca del Rio Bridge.
“I want to thank everyone who donated, especially those that work up really early in the morning – Wings, Ferns Deli, Fido’s, Island Torch, San Pedro Lions Club, Sand Bar, Rojo Beach Bar, Marvin Madrill, Tamara Sniffin, Jean Seruntine, Daniel Jakeway, Elizabeth Copage, Renita, Jodie, Kelly, Halliday Family, Mom, Dad, Jamie, Dan, Lynn, Mr. Reds, Matt Hoy, Inna, Franc and Grand Belizean Estates and many others. Thank you” – Findlay Halliday.
