- by Ryan Ancona - In today’s society we are all expected to have a similar personalities, clothing, likes, dislikes, opinions, etc. Some examples of these would be like seeing lots of guys wearing the same snapback caps with G-Shock watches and Jordan slippers; the girls would also all wear similar clothing. You will also observe that many people try to emulate the same personality that others portray. It’s like everybody is trying to copy each other or this one person they look up to. But then it seems like everyone has the same personality!
So why do people do this? Well the obvious answer is to fit in. If we don’t follow everyone else then we are now outcasts and would be mocked by all of the “normal” people, right? Well what if I told you it doesn’t have to be this way. You should find what fits you; be yourself. There is no reason that you have to follow one single style just to fit in.
In doing this we are all just mindless zombies that are not thinking for ourselves. Who cares what other people think. Humans have a way of thinking that if something is different from the norm it is bad and I’m here to say that is a very foolish way of thinking. If we would all try to follow the norm the world would be an extremely boring place.
Now I’m not saying you can’t like the stuff everyone else likes. I am saying, just because everyone else likes it doesn’t mean you have to like it. If you would like to wear the “in” clothes then go right ahead as long as you like it. Just make sure you are fitting into your own personality and not trying to mimic someone else.
So if you have the mentality that anything different is wrong then please re-evaluate your thinking style. Make sure to think for yourself and not just follow the crowd. Be your own person and you will be a lot more confident and happier.
