One man is in police custody today as he was caught lighting a golf cart on fire in downtown San Pedro. The incident took place shortly after 9p.m. curfew on Saturday, August 7, 2021. A surveillance camera showed evidence of a man walking away from a parked golf cart adjacent to Elvi’s Kitchen right after he ignited it with a can of WD40 lubricant.
Luckily, a neighbor saw the flames and quickly outed the fire with a fire extinguisher before it got any bigger and cause more damage. The surveillance video was able to assist the San Pedro Police Department in capturing a man who is currently detained, pending investigations. Police indicate that he does not have papers to be legally living in Belize.
