A Record 166 Cases of COVID-19 Identified in Belize

A total of 477 COVID-19 samples were processed on Monday, November 3, 2020, with a record number of 166 cases identified, a positivity rate of 34.8%. Zero cases were announced for Ambergris Caye. This spike comes just after it was announced over the weekend that the National Oversight Committee (NOC) has been dissolved. The committee was in charge of making major decisions during the Corona Virus Pandemic. The NOC thanked all those who assisted in its work over the period beginning in March of this year, and expressed the hope that the administration designated after the general election will see it fit to reconstitute the Committee.

There are 32 recoveries to report with 38.7% of cases remaining active. Unfortunately two deaths to report on Monday, both are in females, one in Corozal who was in her 60s and was classified as a sudden death; the second case is in a female in her 30s from Bella Vista and is related to the cases from the banana farms. Belize’s case fatality rate is now at 1.61%. Two patients remain intubated at the KHMH’s COVID-19 unit with 7 other patients hospitalized.

Orange Walk – 20 (14 Town, 2 Guinea Grass, 1 Carmelita, 1 San Lorenzo, 1 San Jose Palmar, 1 Trial Farm)

Belize – 47 (23 City, 15 Ladyville, 2 Hattieville, 1 Burrell Boom, 1 Crooked Tree, 1 Lords Bank – the following swabbed in city but they are from: 1 From Belmopan, 1 from Roaring Creek, 1 from San Ignacio, 1 from San Pedro Colombia)

Cayo – 36 (19 Belmopan, 5 San Ignacio, 3 Santa Elena, 2 Valley of Peace, 1 Roaring Creek, 1

Benque Viejo del Carmen, 1 San Antonio, 1 Armenia, 1 Spanish Lookout, 1 Teakettle, 1 from San Felipe OW)

Stann Creek – 29 (5 Dangriga, 4 Hopkins, 2 Santa Cruz, 3 Independence – the following swabbed in SC but from: 10 Bella Vista TOL, 1 Trio TOL, 1 San Isidro TOL, 1 Farm 20 Swasey TOL, 1 from Santa Marta CY, 1 from Belize City)

Toledo – 25 (18 Punta Gorda, 2 San Miguel, 1 San Pedro Colombia, 1 Silver Creek, 1 Jacintoville, 1 Mafredi, 1 from Pomona, SC).
