San Pedro Awarded Town Council of the Year
For all its hard work and recent accomplishments for the betterment of Ambergris Caye, last week, the San Pedro Town Council received the award of recognition of Town Council of the Year.
The Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labor and Local Government hosted an award ceremony to honor outstanding stakeholders for their significant contributions to the Ministry’s mission of serving the Belizean people.
This year’s awardees included the Social Security Board, the San Pedro Town Council, Belize Water Services Limited, Seine Bight Village Council, Cotton Tree Village Council, San Narciso Village Council, Caye Caulker Village Council, Golden Stream Village Council, August Pine Ridge Village Council, Progresso Village Water Board, San Lazaro Village Water Board, San Miguel Village Waterboard, and San Antonio Village Waterboard.
They have been recognized for their exceptional service, doing ordinary things extraordinarily well, and, in so doing, serving their communities with distinction as partners to the Ministry.

National Health Insurance Rolls out in San Pedro
Residents of La Isla Bonita are now able to access affordable healthcare through the National Health Insurance (NHI) scheme. According to the government, Belizeans in San Pedro will be able to access primary health services purchased from two care providers – San Pedro Urgent Care and San Carlos Medical Center. The primary health services provided by the facilities will include general medical consultation, non-communicable disease (NCD) diagnosis and treatment, screening, reproductive health, and other support services such as pharmacy, laboratory, and imaging.

San Pedro Takes Over Band Fest 2024
Over the weekend, San Pedro High School and R.C. School took top honors at Band Fest 2024 that took place in San Ignacio, Cayo. San Pedro High School took first place and San Pedro R.C. School took third place; while Independence High School Marching Band took second.
Big shout out to S.P. RC. School for being the only primary school participating against high school performers for band best.
Oh, and a Traffic Jam
….and on Saturday another large container truck got stuck on Tarpon Street, adding to the frustration of islanders who were stuck in a traffic jam for a very very long time. Never-ending traffic woes for San Pedro.
