Flashback to When Fido’s Dock Was the Heart of the Action

flashback fido's dock

This photo takes us way back to a time when Fido’s dock was always buzzing with life. Back then, this wasn’t just a place to catch a boat, it was a hub of activity from sunrise to sunset. The dock was home to the Island Ferry, and a busy dive shop, with tanks lined up and boats coming and going all day long.

Locals and visitors alike would gather here, and at the very end of the dock was one of the best swimming spots in town. Clear water, plenty of shade, and that laid-back island energy that made you lose track of time. It wasn’t unusual to see people jumping in for a quick swim or just floating around, watching the boats pass by.

In the background of this photo, you can spot a cargo barge docked at the town’s municipal pier. Back then, this was where all marine cargo was unloaded. Barges arriving was a normal part of daily life, and everyone knew when supplies came in. It was noisy, busy, and essential to how the island functioned.

Fido’s Changes With Time

Fast forward to today, and much has changed at Fido’s dock. The dock is no longer the lively gathering spot it once was. Now, only the Caribbean Sprinter water taxi operates from here, quietly shuttling passengers back and forth. The municipal pier, once so active, now often sits nearly empty, as cargo barges dock at the newer marina instead.

It’s one of those scenes that reminds us how San Pedro keeps evolving. Progress brings convenience and growth, but these old images take us back to a simpler time, when the docks weren’t just infrastructure, they were part of daily island life and countless memories made on and in the water.
