The Marco Gonzalez Maya Site at the south end of Ambergris Caye is currently the host to 25 students since Wednesday, June 23. Ten students are from the University of London, England, and 15 students are from the University of North Carolina Wilmington, USA.
One of the students from the University of London, Ms. Nadia Glassup is presently studying archaeology and as part of her thesis for obtaining her Master’s Degree; she is doing field work here in the Marco Gonzalez Maya Site.
Glassup will be hosting an Archaeology workshop for children aged ten and above. The workshop is an exciting opportunity for young people to learn about what archaeologist do. There will be plenty of artifacts to examine and fun activities while learning about the ancient settlement of Marco Gonzalez. The workshop will be held on Thursday, July 8, and will run from 10:30a.m. to 1:00p.m. It is free of charge and refreshments will be served.
An Archaeology Exhibition will also take place from Thursday, July 8 through Sunday, July 11. The exhibit is free of charge and all are welcomed to visit the exhibit at the Belize Yacht Club Conference Center starting at 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily. There will be much information provided about the site and you will have the chance to handle real artifacts and talk to the archaeologist.
