It was the Cook Off of all cook offs as the Saga Humane Society held its final fundraising cooking competition this past Friday, December 16, 2011 at Central Park. Taking the title of the grand master champ was Jan Brown with her Homemade Carrot Cake; she took home a brand new Kindle.
Champions of past Cook Off competitions were invited to prepare their favorite dish and try to impress the public who are the judges of the competition. There were 14 entries in the finals which included fantastic dishes which included: Orange Ginger Shrimp, Chicken Dinner Rolls, Cheese Lobster Crepes with Bacon, Rosemary Garlic Shrimp Kebabs, Crab Pork Dumplings, Stroganoff, Seafood Enchiladas and Chicken Breast Medallions stuffed with Beef Tenderloin, among other. It was a whole lot of food, hearty and delicious, that some people had to carry in two plates.
Coming in second place was Letty Hernandez with her Three Cheese Lobster Crepes w/ bacon sauce (winning an iPod Nano with accessories) and placing third was Anna of Mathieu’s Delicatessen with her Apple Strudel (winning an iPod Shuffle with speakers).
Saga’s monthly cook offs have proven to be very fun, social and entertaining throughout the year and a very positive fundraiser for Saga. This final competition proved just that with an amazing show of support from island residents. There was even a full bar with Christmas spirits: Eggnog, Hot Buttered Rum, Sangria!
But the fun did not end with the Cook Off! Saga had plenty of raffles, Christmas ornament making, photo opportunities with Santa and also the launch of their 2012 Calendar during their first annual Holiday Fundraiser. Miss Costa Maya Belize, Idolly Saldiver, was on hand during the launch of Saga’s Calendar which included pictures of foster puppies and kittens along with the beauty contestants of the Reina de la Costa Maya pageant 2011.
The Paws & Princesses Saga 2012 Calendar run for $25 each or $100 for six. Saga Humane Society needs your support to operate the Shelter. It takes continued fundraising efforts from the Board, Staff and committed volunteers AND your generous donations. Saga thanks everybody for attending all their fundraising events throughout the year and their continued support.
