A crew from Bandage International was on the island conducting a two-day first aid training course in collaboration with the Belize Red Cross San Pedro Branch. The course was carried out on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 and Thursday, November 7, 2013 at El Divino Restaurant where a total of 28 persons from various local businesses including a few San Pedro Red Cross Volunteers were certified in First Aid.
Bandage International also held training on behalf of the Belize Red Cross on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at La Loma Luz hospital in Santa Elena and Tuesday, November 5, 2013 Toledo Community College Punta Gorda. The course offered included bandaging, splinting, burns, CPR for adults, child, infant, choking, medical emergencies including heart attacks, stroke, asthma, seizures, water emergencies, and training on using AED’s (Automated External Defibrillators).
At the end of Day 1 of first aid training in San Pedro, Bandage International presented Coye, a SACNW Patrol officer, with a logo shirt and made him an honorary BI Member for having saved a 4-year-old Belize City boy from drowning. At the time, Coye had just taken a first aid course with Bandage International two days previous to the accident. The boy (now 7-years-old) and his mother came from Belize City for the event and Bandage International presented the boy with toys from Canada. This was all filmed for a Bandage International Fundraising Documentary.

At the end of the two day training sessions, a total of 28 persons were certified in First Aid, most from local businesses, including Elvi’s Kitchen, Victoria House Resort, South Ambergris Caye Neighborhood Watch, Romantic Travel Belize, Consolidated Water, Grand Caribe, Spiez Pharmacy, Coastal Xpress and tacogirl.com.
On Saturday, November 9, 2013, Bandage International donated a Lifepak 500 Defibrillator to Maya Island Air. The donation was given to Maya Island for their central location and also for their ongoing transportation support to Bandage International. Maya Air will be joining the first aid program and working with the San Pedro Belize Red Cross to receive ongoing first aid training and defibrillator training.
