The San Pedro Roman Catholic School (SPRCS) held a small ceremony for the inauguration on the renovations of the bathroom facilities on Thursday, November 28, 2013. With a student population of nearly 900, the school’s bathroom facilities were in dire need of upgrading and renovations. The pleas of the school did not fall on deaf ears as UNICEF wasted no time in jumping on the project and provided financial aid for the project.
Delivering the welcome address was Mayor Daniel Guerrero who stated that the Town Council, along with UNICEF, has been working hand in hand to make much needed improvements in schools and different areas of the island. He stressed on the importance of civic pride and asked the children of SPRCS to take care of the newly renovated facilities.

The Chairperson of the Quality Child Friendly School Committee, Mrs. Yannicki Kie, gave a brief overview of the project and officially presented the School Maintenance Committee who will be in charge of the maintenance and upkeep of the bathroom and other areas of the school.

Mrs. Miriam Codd-pott, Education Officer of San Pedro Town, challenged the School Maintenance Committee to upkeep the bathroom to their best of their abilities and congratulated the school as it is one of the first schools in the country to receive such financial aid from UNICEF.
Mr. Ivan Yerovi, UNICEF Representative delivered his special remarks, Sister Barbara Flores delivered the vote of thanks followed by the blessing of the bathroom facilities by Father Henry Bercasio. Chairpersons of the Parent-Teacher Association, Maintenance Committee and General Manager of the School signed the Maintenance Agreement after which the official ribbon cutting ceremony took place.

After the brief ceremony invited guests were given a site tour and refreshments were served. A huge “Thank You” goes out to UNICEF for having completed this much needed project at the San Pedro RC School for all the children to use clean proper bathrooms.
