In her first appearance the Estel’s BBQ Ribs Cook-off, Executive Chef of Elvi’s Kitchen Jennie Staines, pulled a double ‘whammy’ by taking both first place medals from the judges pick and the people’s choice. The grilling and finger-licking took place on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, beachside at Estel’s Dine by the Sea.
The grilling competition now in its 5th year is proving to be a huge tourist attraction as the diner is overfilled with customers enjoying cold beer, cocktails and the delicious food of Estel’s. The main attraction of the event is of course the tender ribs that are grilled by local chefs and repeat grill masters who have a passion for barbequing.
Those arriving late could only wish they hadn’t as tickets sold out immediately, indicating that host and restaurant owner Charles Worthington needs to provide even more ribs for next year’s event. Everybody loves a great barbeque cookoff!
Competing in this year’s cook-off were 2015 Champ Ali Rush, Rick Saager, Jim Gochenour, Jennie Staines, Amy Knox, and Charles Worthington. Charles has been able to take the first prize two years in a row but stiff competition has placed him on second place for two years now. Nevertheless, customers of Estel’s know of Charles’ passion for grilling and keep returning to his diner for his delicious food. Congratulations to all the competitors, winners and champ Jennie.
