New COVID-19 Case Appears in San Pedro After 4 Months of First Case

Approximately four months after Belize announced its first COVID-19 case in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, (March 22, 2020) a new corona virus case emerges on La Isla Bonita, San Pedro. The case involves a female who is experiencing symptoms of the sickness.

The Office of Director of Health Services in Belize has just confirmed COVID-19 Case #57, being a female who presented with fever and respiratory symptoms and is currently being managed on the island. This female denies any travel history and contact tracing for possible source of infection is currently underway. Once further information is known, the public will be informed.

In terms of the case in Orange Walk, health officials have been able to trace contacts involved in the contraband of goods so that investigation is ongoing.  In terms of the case in Corozal, no specific contact has been ascertained. Both of these cases remain hospitalized and are currently stable.
