Dr. Solorzano Appointed Chairperson of the National AIDS Commission

The Office of the Prime Minister has announced the appointment of Dr. Griovanni Solorzano as the new Chairperson of the National AIDS Commission (NAC)/Country Coordinator Mechanism (CCM). Dr. Solorzano’s appointment came into effect on Wednesday, February 3, 2021. He replaces previous Chairperson, Mrs. Laura Tucker-Longsworth.

Dr. Solorzano, a resident of San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, has been working in the medical field for over 25 years. He previously worked with the Pan American Health Organization as a Maternal and Family  Child Health Consultant. He also acted as Clinical Director at the San Pedro Polyclinic II, and as Deputy Director of Health Services at the Karl Heusner Memoral Hospital (KHMH) where he was responsible for Quality Assurance. His employment relationship with the Government of Belize dates all the way back to 1991 when he was appointed as a Member of the Nation Steering Health Reform Committee.

The NAC/CCM welcomes the appointment of Dr. Solorzano and states they are looking forward to working closely with him to drive the country’s response to HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis forward. Ambergris Today and the San Pedro Community congratulate Dr. Solorzano and wish him well in his new post.
