Will You Pay More with the New Trade License Regime in San Pedro?

San Pedro Trade license regime

San Pedro business owners are seeking clarity as the Town Council prepares to launch a new Trade License Regime in 2025. The answer to weather businesses will see a change in their fees is not that straightforward with various factors determining how you are charged for your trade license under the new regime. The updated system introduces several changes, including formulas and fixed rates based on the type of business—whether it operates from a fixed location, is mobile, or an e-business. Additionally, four newly defined trade zones will influence license rates.

The Council assured attendees at a recent community meeting that rates will be fixed for three years (2025-2027), with no more than a 10% increase for businesses experiencing significant rate hikes under the new formula. A key goal of the new regime is to streamline the application process, making it more efficient and fair.

While some business owners expressed concerns over the complexity of the changes, the Council emphasized that reapplication is necessary for all businesses, and they plan to provide further guidance in the coming weeks. Business owners with specific questions are encouraged to contact the Town Council for more details.

Trade License to Improve Ease of Doing Business

The council’s focus remains on improving the ease of doing business, ensuring transparency, and maintaining fairness through the introduction of floor and ceiling rates to regulate fees across business categories.

As the island’s business community adjusts to the new licensing structure, the Town Council aims to provide a clearer path forward and support the local economy’s growth.
