San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, celebrated a significant milestone on May 14, 2025, with the inauguration of the Hol Chan Marine Reserve Marine Education Center. This interactive facility aims to deepen public understanding of Belize’s marine ecosystems and promote conservation efforts.
The opening ceremony featured speeches from Hol Chan Marine Reserve Chairman Ian Pou, Hon. Andre Perez, Minister of Blue Economy and Education Coordinator Mariel Archer. Chairman Pou emphasized the center’s role as a hub for knowledge and inspiration, bringing together students, educators, families, and marine enthusiasts. He highlighted the collaborative efforts that led to the center’s completion, noting the challenges overcome since the project’s inception in 2021.
Education Coordinator Archer described the center as a beacon of conservation, designed to illuminate the wonders beneath the ocean’s surface. She outlined plans for the center to host interactive exhibits, educational programs, and workshops, aiming to foster a deep appreciation for marine biodiversity and the importance of sustainable practices.
