The official campaign in support of the upcoming referendum to legalize cannabis in Caye Caulker officially began this Monday, September 22, 2025. The initiative, led by local councilor Ilya Rosado, aims to provide accurate information, answer questions, and ensure that every voter on the island is well-informed ahead of the historic October 8th vote.

As part of the campaign, community volunteers will go door-to-door, visiting neighbors and engaging directly with residents about the facts, benefits, and regulations that would come with a responsible, legal cannabis industry. The campaign will also include street activations and public conferences where experts and local leaders will share their knowledge and address concerns.

Two public conferences will provide a platform for open dialogue, ensuring that all voices are heard and all questions are answered. Date and location will be announced through social media platforms, FB and IG as @legalizeit.cayecaulker.

Legalize Cannabis Campaign

“This campaign to legalize cannabis is about education, transparency, and empowerment,” said Councilor Ilya Rosado. “We want our community to make their decision based on facts, not fear. Caye Caulker deserves to know how legalization could bring positive change — from creating jobs to restricting access to the youth.”

The referendum will ask voters whether the Government of Belize should pass legislation to create a responsible, regulated, and taxable legal cannabis industry, with a portion of the revenue going directly to benefit Caye Caulker and its residents.

Councilor Rosado emphasized the importance of civic participation: “October 8th is voting day. We encourage every registered voter on the island to come out and have their say. This is our chance to shape the future of Caye Caulker together.”

  1. I live in British Columbia Canada, drugs and the devastation of their use is rampant here. Legalization is a slippery slope. Take Care.
