A former teacher from San Pedro has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting students, in a case that has sparked strong reactions within the community. According to court information, 47-year-old Alex Jason Noralez, a resident of Barracuda Street in the Boca del Rio area of San Pedro Town, was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment after being convicted on two counts of sexual assault involving students. The case dates back to January 2024, when Noralez was accused of sexually assaulting students at school. He was initially charged with three counts of sexual assault involving students.
On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, a magistrate delivered the ruling, finding Noralez guilty on two counts related to second form students, while he was acquitted on a third count involving a first form student. The court ordered that the two 18-month sentences run concurrently, meaning Noralez will serve a total of 18 months in prison.
During the trial, Noralez reportedly maintained his innocence. He admitted to hugging the students but claimed the embraces were not sexual in nature. However, the students testified that the teacher allegedly groped them.
Peaceful Protest Against Sexual Assault Ruling
Following the sentencing, a peaceful protest was held on Wednesday evening, January 28, 2026, in San Pedro in support of Noralez. The demonstration consisted of a walk through the streets of the town, with family members, friends, and former students participating in what they described as a show of support and solidarity.
The case continues to generate widespread discussion in the community, highlighting concerns about student safety, accountability, and the handling of sensitive cases within school environments.
