Lobster Season is Here!

Every year on July 1st, lobsters are caught for the first official haul of the season, marking the start of something both traditional and celebratory in Belize. The season isn’t just about food – it’s about livelihood, heritage, and island pride. For local fishermen, it’s the reward of early mornings, salt in the air, and skill passed down from generation to generation. And for the rest of us, it signals the start of a time we eagerly look forward to: Lobster Fest—a celebration of flavor, music, and community.

But before the crowds, before the beach parties and the buttery plates of grilled tails, there’s quiet moments by the water, a smile behind mirrored sunglasses, a fresh catch held with pride. These are the scenes that remind us where it all begins.

Island life often blends routine and wonder in the same breath. We pass the same piers, hear the same boats hum in the morning, and somehow, each year, the arrival of lobster season still feels like something new. Something to celebrate. It’s a time that reconnects us to our roots, to each other, and to the sea that sustains us. Here’s to the hands that work hard behind the scenes and to the tradition that keeps bringing us back, season after season.

Prayer for Lobster Fisherman

Creator of the Sea,

We thank You for the waters that sustain us and for the hands that harvest its gifts. Bless our fishermen of San Pedro, Caye Caulker, and all of Belize. Grant them safety, strength, and abundance this lobster season.

Guide their boats, calm the waves, and bring them home to their families with full nets and full hearts. May we honor the sea with gratitude and care, now and always.

Amen.
