The community of Ambergris Caye got together to support the fundraiser as local businesses donated of their time, resources, food and beverages that were all donated towards raising funds for the worthy cause. First Lady of Belize Kim Simplis-Barrow hosted the Inspire Celebration Fundraiser that took place on June 18, 2016, at the Mahogany Bay Village – Curio Collection by Hilton in San Pedro Ambergris Caye.
“We dress in white for hope tonight,” commented Mrs. Kim Simples-Barrow as she addressed the attendants of the fundraiser. “Hope for the children of Belize who need our assistance.” The Inspiration Center was founded in 2014 by Belize’s Prime Minister’s wife to help some of the most vulnerable children in Belize.
The celebration was a complete success, the Great House at Mahogany Bay Village was alive in the spirit of celebration and giving on its inaugural event. Attendees were entertained with music, food, drinks and also made donations in the form of raffles and silent auctions that took place during the course of the evening. Local businesses also presented monetary donations and all proceeds of the evening went towards the Inspiration Center.
The Inspiration Center provides physical and speech therapy, community based rehabilitation, basic medical services and social support for the holistic care of children and their families. It also offers recreational, cultural, and sports programs. The center runs on donations and fundraising efforts and today is staffed with 19 members, including one doctor, one speech therapist and one physical therapist who help children from all over the country. The center encourages early diagnosis and treats babies as young as one month old to gauge hearing and physical abilities; work takes place both at the center and with community outreach.
The Center assists children with disabilities, teaches the parents and the communities
There are families in Belize located in very remote villages who can’t even afford the $10 fee per session, have no medical assistance, much less care for children with special needs. The Center’s small team of professionals make their way to these remote areas as much as possible to provide their services.
