Old Timer or Modern Sanpedrano? #6

By Angel Nuñez

YOU KNOW YOU ARE AN OLD TIMER SANPEDRANO IF
…..when you were growing up you knew of one kind of soap and it was a bar of hard soap called “Sunlight”.  With a bar of Sunlight you did the dishes, laundry, and bathed with it too.  You also scrubbed the tables and benches in the kitchen on Saturdays with a lot of bubbles from Sunlight soap.  We used to be able to buy this soap by inches.
AND YOU KNOW YOU ARE A MODERN SANPEDRANO IF you have a variety of soaps to choose from like Palmolive, Lux, Dial, Dove, Irish Springs, Oil of Olay, Camay, Caress, (Sote for laundry), Lifebouy, and Dawn, Squeezy and Joy for your dishes.

Since we are on personal hygiene, let’s do some more. YOU KNOW YOU ARE AN OLD TIMER SANPEDRANO IF
…..when you were growing up there were not many deodorants to choose from. A lot of men used alcohol and those who were seriously unbearable used lime.  However, the most popular and at times only deodorant available was a cream called Mum.
AND YOU KNOW YOU ARE A PRESENT DAY SANPEDRANO IF you have a wide array of deodorants to choose from like: AXE 247, Old Spice, Spinz, Nivea, Dove, Secret, Right Guard, Masi Inferno and Masi Ice, Degree, Polo Sport, Sure, Max, Pixi, Obaok, Lacoste, Hugo Boss and Adidas. And do you know what?  Alcohol or lime with Aloe Vera work just as well as all of the above.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE AN OLD TIMER SANPEDRANO IF
…..while you were growing up you knew of one decent perfume for girls and it was named quite appropriately, “Siete Machos” meaning “Seven men” because it was very pungent and I guess it really attracted the men.  Cologne was not available for men in the 1950’s. It was a little later that Old Spice came out for men.
BUT YOU KNOW YOU ARE A MODERN SANPEDRANO IF  you can choose your colognes from among, 212 Men, Polo, Rebellion, Very Sexy, Isimiaki, Contradiction, Ferrari Black, Blue, CK Calvin Klein, Lacoste, Pleasure, Intense and Hugo Boss to name a few.  You can safely say that today’s modern Sanpedranos really smell nice. The old timers of San Pedro had to attract the young ladies with personality and good looks, not with a pungent smell.

Hey, this edition of Twenty Five Years Ago sounds quite like an advertisement for the boutiques and stores of San Pedro with their wide array of soaps, perfumes, colognes, and deodorants.
