Travelers to and from San Pedro now have a more spacious and efficient option for sea transportation as San Pedro Belize Express Water Taxi has officially opened its new terminal. Located 0.8 miles south of downtown on Coconut Drive, the terminal promises to significantly improve services while addressing downtown congestion concerns.
The new water taxi terminal is located adjacent to the future site of the Marriott Residences of Ambergris Caye, which is currently under construction. Designed with convenience and comfort in mind, the facility mirrors the modern amenities of San Pedro Belize Express’ Belize City terminal. Travelers will benefit from enhanced services, including:
- Expanded outdoor and covered waiting areas with separate lines for Caye Caulker and Belize City travelers.
- A larger indoor waiting area to accommodate more passengers comfortably.
- Additional ticket counters for faster and more efficient ticket purchases.
- A designated cargo pick-up and luggage claim area located in separate buildings closer to the ample parking lots.
The terminal also boasts a significantly larger parking area, a notable improvement for both residents and tourists, allowing for a more organized and hassle-free arrival and departure experience.
A Solution to Downtown Congestion
This relocation aligns with the San Pedro Town Council’s mandate to reduce congestion in the heart of downtown San Pedro. Since Hurricane Earl destroyed San Pedro Belize Express’s original terminal in 2016, the company has been operating from the town’s municipal pier at Central Park. While this downtown location served as a convenient hub for years, the island’s rapid growth has made it clear that a more expansive and strategically located terminal was necessary to accommodate increasing passenger numbers and ease traffic in the town center.
The new water taxi terminal is a win-win for the island community, offering improved water taxi services while contributing to the long-term goal of better traffic management in downtown San Pedro.
A Better Experience for Water Taxi Travelers
San Pedro Belize Express has long been the primary gateway for residents and tourists traveling by sea between San Pedro, Caye Caulker, and Belize City. With the new terminal, commuters can look forward to a smoother, more enjoyable travel experience. The improved facilities reflect the company’s commitment to enhancing the journey to and from Ambergris Caye, ensuring that the island remains a top destination for travelers.
As the new terminal begins operations, the community and visitors alike can celebrate the positive changes it brings—reduced congestion downtown, enhanced passenger services, and a more modern, efficient transportation hub. This marks another step forward in accommodating the ever-expanding needs of San Pedro.

Congratulations 👏. Fantastic improvement for locals and tourists. One (1) a check-in line or 1 staff check-in and when staff has no check-ins does sales of tickets. Many of us regular customers do take the time to go to purchase our tickets days before our travel dates. Perhaps an online check-in. I’ve been a satisfied customers since it started business 15 years ago. Consistent excellent service by office & cargo staff.
