There are moments when you’re watching something global, something massive, and then suddenly it becomes personal. That was Super Bowl 60. As Belizeans joined millions around the world tuning in for the halftime show, there was already excitement in the air. Bad Bunny was set to take the stage, and expectations were high. What followed was historic, bold, visually powerful, and unapologetically cultural.

But nothing prepared us for those final seconds.

As the performance built to its climax and the parade of flags filled the screen, there it was (red, white & blue, and the only flag in the world with people on it) the Belize flag waving proudly on one of the biggest stages in the world. And in that instant, every Belizean watch party from San Pedro to Los Angeles exploded.

Belize. Was. There. For many of us, that visibility hit differently. We’re the only English-speaking country in Central America. We’re often left out of Latin American lists, songs, and celebrations. Sometimes we’re placed in the Caribbean box, sometimes in Central America, sometimes nowhere at all. But we know who we are. We’re both. And in that powerful moment, Belize stood alongside the region in a show of unity, identity, and pride.

Then came the icing on the cake.

The Belize flag wasn’t just randomly placed in the lineup. It was carried by Nyah Davis, a Belizean American, backup dancer for Bad Bunny, and proud daughter and granddaughter of Belizean parents. Let that sink in. One of our own was out there, representing her roots, carrying our flag with confidence and grace in front of the world.

It instantly transformed what was already a powerful performance into something deeply personal for Belizeans everywhere. The emotions poured out online.

“The raw emotions that brought up was way too much for any watch party. I didn’t understand a word but felt the cultural connection and EVERYTHING deeply in my soul and heart. It felt like healing a hurt and one big painful exhale and OUR Belize flag… OMG… chefs kiss!! He didn’t disappoint.” Belize TV Personality, Indira Craig captured what so many were feeling

Even the Belize Tourism Board shared their appreciation, stating:
“An unforgettable Super Bowl moment! Thank you, Bad Bunny, for an outstanding performance and for representing our culture on such a global stage. Seeing the Belize flag was truly special and deeply appreciated.”

“I have many friends on here from Costa Rica, Belize and a few other Latin American nations, and follow sites here that cover Costa Rica and Belize. It was pretty amazing to see the positive affect that Bad Bunny’s halftime performance had on those nations. People are so proud that their flags were displayed on a show about humanity, unity and love. America is my nation, Costa Rica is my home and Belize is my happy place. That’s the Belize flag right behind the U.S. and PR flags.” Rich Gimm

And they’re right. It was special.

The waving flags weren’t just decorative. They were symbolic. They represented regional unity, shared history, shared struggle, shared culture. For Belize to be included in that lineup meant visibility. It meant acknowledgment. It meant belonging. For a country that sometimes feels overlooked in larger regional narratives, that moment mattered.

From island living rooms to diaspora gatherings abroad, Belizeans were jumping, cheering, rewinding, screenshotting, and posting with pride. It wasn’t just about a halftime show. It was about being seen. On a night filled with music, symbolism, and cultural power, one small but mighty nation had its moment along with the rest.

And we won’t forget it.
