Yes! Belize does have a Hockey Club. It formed about 7 years ago and is made up of Belizeans and expats from Canada, the USA and England who normally play on the Tennis Courts at the San Pedro Fitness Club.
This Saturday, 4th February 2017, an International Hockey Tournament will be held at the San Pedro High School Auditorium commencing at 4pm and finishing at 8.30pm. Entry is FREE and there will be a food stall and bar with local beers and rum drinks costing just $4.
The play offs and finals will be at 3pm on Monday, 6th February at the High School. (NOTE: There will be no bar or food available on Monday)
This Tournament came about at the behest of The Withrow Park Hockey Club from Toronto in Canada playing this Saturday as The Tropical Knights. They dared to challenge the San Pedro Buccaneers to do a battle on the field of hockey – winner takes all!
This is the inaugural Caribbean Coconut Cup (CCC) hosted by Belize’s only Ball Hockey Club, the San Pedro Buccaneers. There will be three teams participating in a ’round robin’ Tournament. It is hoped that with plenty of support and a big warm welcome to Canadian guests from Toronto, that this Tournament will become an annual event with more and more teams coming to San Pedro to participate.
The San Pedro Buccaneers in conjunction with the Town Board and indeed the government of Belize extend a very warm welcome to the guests from Toronto. Cordially inviting them to experience the warmth of the people and the wonderful sights and sounds that this dream island and the Country of Belize have to offer.
The San Pedro Buccaneers invites everyone to bring their flags and cheer their favorite team on – choices are The Tropical Knights from Canada, (the professionals) The San Pedro Buccaneers SS1 (the young fit ones) or The San Pedro Buccaneers SS2 (the older experienced ones)
The San Pedro takes time to thank all of those who have worked so hard in a short space of time to make this Tournament possible. Particular thanks to Mr. Emil Vasquez for allowing us to use the high school venue, San Pedro Town Board as a whole and particularly Tito and Kent (Bob) for all of their support. All members of the San Pedro Hockey Club for giving so much of their personal time and effort and of course our Sponsors who have eased the burden of expense namely Nelly from Lily’s Treasure Chest Restaurant, Paul from Caye Coffee, Rob from Crazy Canucks Bar, Wayo from Wayo’s Beernet, Tammy from Island Tackle Bar, Dario from Belikin Beer, and David & Britney from Sandbar.
