One of the greatest adventures that I have ever experienced during my wonderful time with Ambergris Today definitely has been soaring high above our beautiful island on Toucan Fly’s ultra light aircrafts. Anyone can tell you that flying over our gorgeous island and viewing the waves crashing onto the Great Barrier Reef is nothing short of spectacular!
On one of my recent visits to the mainland I got the three-peat “puddle jumping” experience – landing and take-offs at Caye Caulker Airport, International Airport and Belize City Municipal Airport. I took time to notice the looks on tourists’ faces as they looked out their windows and stared at the beautiful deep and crystal clear waters along my way back home. With cameras and hand-held video devices in hand, I could see how impressed they were upon their first look out into the blue. Heck! Even I am mesmerized every time I fly.
I was also reminded how lucky I am to be living in this amazing Paradise. I would not trade it for anything! My little third-world heaven that I call home is perfect for me; even with all its limitations, all its grandeur makes up for it.
Although they no longer operate on the island (:(), Toucan Fly gave me the opportunity to soar like a bird over my island home. With just a helmet, a single prop engine behind me and a light wingspan overhead I glided over the Great Barrier Reef, soared over the exclusive Cayo Espanto Island Resort and flew towards the sun as it set behind Ambergris Caye. Spectacular, I’d say! Not many have had this wonderful opportunity to soar like a bird in the open air. I can only imagine the skydivers’ experience during the Boggie in Belize events.
And a few years back Astrum Helicopters gave me the opportunity to hover above San Pedro Town as I took pictures to map the town; another amazing experience! It’s totally different from flying in a plane! Gotta try this out too!
