Royalty and Pageantry in San Pedro Village

As we enter the season of the festivities connected with the anniversaries of The Battle of St. George’s Caye and Independence it is apt to look at some of the past queens who reigned over the hearts of San Pedranos after having won the Miss San Pedro title.

Here is Miss San Pedro 1966, Marcia Dawson sharing the stage with Miss San Pedro 1964, Flora Graniel right at Central Park in San Pedro. This Flashback shows the absence of any elaborate stage with props and backgrounds.  There is not even a sign indicating the year. Note that in that day and age there was a lot more fabric as the queen and maids of honor were all dressed in very expensive and detailed white evening gowns. The emphasis was not in showing flesh but rather in showing beautiful dresses. And the ladies were all wearing long gloves which was a requisite of the royalty. Indeed, the Miss San Pedro Pageant and the Installation of Miss San Pedro has always been a true gala event.
