Golf Cart Accident Victim Still Alive

Golf car accident victim Julia Mangear, popularly known as the “fruit stand lady”, was in critical condition this Wednesday as of press time, struggling with complications that emerged after undergoing two surgeries at a Belize City hospital.

Julia’s poor family were also struggling at the same time to meet the mounting medical bills being incurred due to the surgeries at the hospital and were seeking assistance with the costs.

Last week on Tuesday, mechanical problems suffered by a golf car being driven by a young woman caused an accident on Coconut Drive at the intersection with Seastar Street. The black golf car backed up on Julia, who was sitting near her place of business on the street corner, as onlookers, including the vendor’s son, quickly rushed to aid the accident victim.

The fruit vendor, a lady in her fifties, was rushed to the nearby Los Pinos Clinic where she received medical assistance. According to the clinic’s staff, the victim received large bruises to the left abdomen and upper leg area of her body. While at Los Pinos, the afflicted lady also suffered from very low blood pressure and the decision was made to transport her by helicopter to Belize City where further tests were to be made at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital to check for internal bleeding by ultrasound. While at the hospital, doctors deemed it necessary for Julia to undergo surgery due to her injuries sustained.

The latest information this Wednesday was that Julia was to undergo a third surgical procedure and that she was in critical condition.
