World Vets provide Free Vet Services at Saga

World Vets- Helping animals, people and communities.

On Thursday, March 24, free veterinary services were offered at Saga Humane Society Veterinary Clinic courtesy of World Vets – International Aid for Animals. Services included free spay and neuter procedures, health exams and de-worming.

A group of 15 World Vet volunteers were in San Pedro for a day to conduct free veterinary services for cats and dogs. Dr. Mike Corcoran is the leader of this project and along with him there are five doctors and nine assistants. The group is staying in Caye Caulker and conducted veterinary clinics there as well. A total of 75 cats and dogs have received medical attention in a period of two days in Caye Caulker and the vet team was expecting to cover the same number here in San Pedro.

“This is our first visit here in San Pedro, we have been in Caye Caulker and Belize City before to conduct free clinics,” commented Dr. Corcoran to Ambergris Today. “All our services are free of cost and we hope to come back in the future to continue offering our services.”

What is spaying/neuter?
It is an operation to remove reproductive organs which is performed by a veterinarian while the animal is under anesthesia (a deep sleep). The animal feels no pain during this common surgery and will usually be able to come home with 24 – 48 hours after their surgery. Females are spayed, males are neutered.
