The San Pedro Police Department received a kind donation by the Neighborhood Watches of San Pedro Town. The short ceremony took place on Saturday, April 30, at 2:00 p.m. at the San Pedro Police Station where the police department received a contribution of nearly $15,000Bze in goods, materials and services collected by the Neighborhood Watches of Ambergris Caye.
Presidents of all the neighborhood watches were present at the ceremony and the MC for the event was councilor Joseph Elijio. Janine Lopez delivered a short speech in regards to the contribution towards the police department.
“The purpose of this contribution was to implement a long overdue improvement in the living conditions in the police barracks,” commented Lopez. “As a community working together hand in hand with our police department and neighborhood watches we can help fight crime and make our island a much safer one to live in.”
Also present at the ceremony were representatives of businesses who contributed goods and services to the police station. A certificate of appreciation was handed to the following business for their kind contribution: Alex Eiley – Caribbean Depot, Amal’s Hardware, Captain Morgan’s Retreat, El Pescador Resort, Island Hardware, Mirab & Co., Portofino Resort and Varela’s Lumber Yard.
The contribution of $15,000 included services, materials and goods including cement blocks, sand and gravel, washing machine, refrigerator, microwave, screens for windows, ceiling fans, light fixtures, roofing equipment, bathroom faucets and shower valves. All of this will be used to upgrade the police barracks for the betterment of the living conditions for the officers.
Sgt. Basil Reyes presented a thank you speech on behalf of OC Dennis Arnold after which Steve Spiro, head of Ambergris Caye Neighborhood Watches along with Scott Harnish of the North Ambergris Caye Neighborhood Watch, officially presented the donation to Acting Officer in Charge of the San Pedro Police Department, Sgt. Ernel Dominguez.
