Who does not like a free Wifi hotspot when traveling abroad? It’s very convenient when you are out and about and need to quickly get in contact with family or want to share your experiences on social media. As we traveled to the city a few weeks back, we couldn’t fail to notice BTL/Digicell’s new Charging Stations at both Tropic Air’s John Greif II and Municipal airport terminals.
We have learned that Digicell has placed these cellphone/laptop/mobile device charging stations which offer convenient free charging for your mobile devices if you find them running out of power, and there is free Wifi as well! As we understand, they have been up since early October and have been placed at key travel points on a trial basis by Digicell. The concept is to provide excellent customer service and a chance for their customers to recharge and reconnect.
We think it is an excellent idea, much like Belize Tourism Board’s “Facebook Belize” campaign, as it is an excellent vehicle for travelers, especially tourists, to ‘long on’ and share their experiences of Belize. Social media is doing a lot for travel marketing and what better way to market yourself than by offering free Wifi and a charging station; a plus for BTL/Digicell and Belize.
At the moment you can find these charging stations only at Tropic Air’s San Pedro, Belize City and Placencia terminals, but Belize Telemedia Limited plans to reach out to other entities such as the Belize Tourist Village, Water Terminals (Caye Caulker Water Taxi & Brown Sugar) International Airport and to tertiary institutions such as University of Belize, Galen University, SJC and Wesley College.
“However in November we will begin installing in Telemedia customer service centers starting with Dangriga, Independence and San Pedro in line with our office renovations,” commented Anjali Vasquez, Public Relations Manager of Belize Telemedia Limited. Eventually every Telemedia location will have charging stations for the convenience of our customers.
We hope they stick with it and place them at key travel points of travel around Belize.
