New Justices of the Peace Sworn In

Attorney General of Belize, Hon. Bernard Q. Pitts was in La Isla Bonita for the swearing in of new Justices of the Peace and the naming of Senior Justices of the Peace for the town of San Pedro. The short yet significant ceremony took place at the San Pedro Town Hall on Friday, November 18, 2011.

A total of eight new Justices of the Peace were sworn who included Jose Luis Zapata, Walter Zepeda, Eddie Halliday Sr., Oscar Aguilar, Karen Canul, Ana Ico, Enrique de Leon and Joseph Elijio.

These new Justices of the Peace now form a part of the over 3,000 JP’s in the country of Belize and their duties are generally requested by fellow citizens to perform tasks such as the witnessing of official documents, including passport applications, marriage licenses application, and declaration forms without charging a fee for their services.

During the ceremony there were also eight prestigious Justices of the Peace honored with the title of Senior Justice of the Peace; they are: Hon. Claudio Azueta, Hon. Nellie Gomez, Hon. Gloria Guerrero, Hon. Lydia Lavin, Hon. Ramon Nuñez, Hon. Pinita Verde, Hon. Flora Ancona and Hon. Elsa Paz.

Congratulations to the newly named Justices of the Peace and to the Senior Justices of Peace.
