SPJC Places 4th at ATLIB Basketball Nationals

On Saturday, February 18, 2012, the ATLIB Basketball Nationals took place in San Ignacio at Falcon Field.  There were four male teams and four female teams.  The two Female teams from the Northern Region were St. Johns Junior College and Wesley Junior College and the two male teams were San Pedro Junior College and Wesley Junior College.  The two female teams in the Southern Region were University of Belize and Ecumenical Junior College and male teams were Galen University and University of Belize.

The following are the results.
Male tournament
Game 1
UB 58 – 44 SPJC

Top scorers:
UB: Farron Louriano 19 pts, 8 rebs, 3 blocks, Winston Pratt 13 pts, Travis Lennon 8 pts.
SPJC: Williams Withman 13 pts, 7 rebs, Franklin Arana 13 pts, Alfred Young 9 pts, 5 rebs.

Game 2
WJC 40 – 39 GU

Top scorers:
WJC: Paul Swasey 13 pts, 9 rebs, 2 blocks, 5 assists, Jaleel Arnold 8 pts.
GU: Jamaal Harris 12 pts, 9 rebs, Jarrell Velasquez 9 pts, 9 rebs, Shelton Defour 9 pts, 8 rebs.

Game 3 – Third Place
GU 40 – 31 SPJC

Top scorers:
GU: Jordan Young 10 pts, Emani Enriquez 8 pts, 8 rebs.
SPJC: Luis Rubio 9 pts, 10 rebs, 2 blocks, Williams Withman 9 pts.

Game 4 – Final
UB 66 – 38 WJC

Top scorers:
UB: Farron Louriano 16 pts, 10 rebs, 1 block, Winston Pratt 11 pts, 6 rebs, Travis Lennon 10 pts, Alfred Bainton 9 pts.
WJC: Oliver Solis 14 pts, Paul Swasey 8 pts, 5 rebs, 1 block, Jaleel Arnold 8 pts

This was the first time SPJC brings out a basketball team and yet with only eight players the team made it to the Nationals and came in as the 4th best basketball team in the country of Belize at the college level.  Congratulations Team.  San Pedro is proud of you.
