Space Object Falls Down to Guatemala/Belize Border

It was reported that residents of Benque Viejo del Carmen, Belize and neighboring Guatemala area sighted a bright white light cutting across the sky on Monday, April 30, 2012. Reports have been confirmed by the Space Command in the United States about the entry of a space object that fell into Earth and crashing near the Belize border, specifically in the town of Melchor de Mencos, Guatemala.

Reports coming from Guatemala are that police and firefighters were mobilized to track and recover the presumed meteorite that possibly fell in the archaeological site of  TZIKÍN TZAKÁN of the Melchor area.

“It could be a meteorite or space junk,” said the director of the National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh) from Guatemala, Edy Sanchez.

Sighting reports in the area of Belize and Guatemala around the social media sites and other websites confirm that people did witness the fall of a meteorite. It has yet to be confirmed by officials what the object was that fell from the sky. Did anybody else in Belize see the falling meteor? Let us know.
