Ministry of Works Assists San Pedro with Road Repairs

The San Pedro Town Council got some special assistance from government this past weekend as the Ministry of Works sent over four heavy duty road repair equipment over to the island to assist the Council’s work on the upgrading of the streets.

Mayor Daniel Guerrero commented to Ambergris Today that he wants to fully upgrade the streets in the DFC and San Pedrito Areas before classes resume. Students in both areas were having difficulty reaching their schools when the rains flooded the streets in the areas and residents have been complaining on the dire condition of the roads.

On Saturday, July 21, 2012, work on the main road to the DFC area commenced as the Ministry of Works lent a street grader, pavement street roller and two large dump trucks that worked on dumping hard core and leveling the road. The new compacted material is sure to withstand the traffic and weather conditions a bit better than the dirt roads.

Work will continue for about two more weeks with more repairs and upgrading of the southern and northern parts of the island continues as well.
