An Inter-Institutional Training Course in Combating Illicit Trafficking in Firearms, Ammunition and Explosives started on Monday, February 25, 2013, at the National Police Training Academy in Belmopan.
Sponsored by the United Nations Regional Center for Peace, Disarmament & Development in Latin America & the Caribbean (UNLIREC), the course is being attended by over fifty participants from agencies such as the Belize Police Force, Belize Defense Force, National Coastguard, Customs, Forensics Department, Scenes of Crime and Airport Security and Prisons.
The Training Course will run for two weeks, from February 25 to March 8, 2013.
Handover of Vehicles to the Police Department
Minister of National Security, Hon. John Saldivar today handed over two additional vehicles to the Police Department. Receiving the vehicles (Mahindra pickup trucks) from the Minister was Deputy Commissioner of Police Elodio Aragon.
One of the vehicles is being assigned to the Crimes Investigations Branch headquartered in Belmopan, and the other to the Southern Intermediate Formation commanded from Independence Village, Stann Creek District.
On hand to receive the vehicles from the Deputy Commissioner were Officer Commanding the National Crimes Investigation Branch, Assistant Commissioner of Police Russell Blackett; and Officer Commanding the Intermediate Southern Formation, Assistant Superintendent Alton Alvarez.
The vehicles were handed over at a short ceremony this morning at the Police Headquarters in Belmopan.
