The Governor’s Fishing Cup XXII Mahahual 2013 was a total success as the crew of the vessel Hook Line & Sinker of San Pedro Belize, took first place with a score of 9,435. Nobody could exceed 314 lbs of the stunning blue marlin caught by the vessel “Hook Line + Sinka”, claiming to be the big winner of the fishing competition.
According to reports, the 314-pound blue marlin caught by the fishermen of San Pedro is the largest in an official tournament and is a historic catch. Team “Hook Line + Sinka” consisted of Captain Joshua Reyes and fisher folk – Kevin Kelly, Alby Godoy, Ricky Marin and Kim Kelly.
There was a bit of controversy in the tournament as reports are that the second place was supposed to be won by boat “Lady Leslie” from San Pedro. They caught a 104 pound blue marlin but were disqualified as judges claimed that the fish was maimed.
After all the controversy “Hook Line + Sinka” from San Pedro, Belize received a latest model pickup truck, a trophy and a prize from the sponsor. Sixth place went to Armando Gonzalez of the boat “Sulema” and 13th place went to “Lady Leslie” Jody Leslie, who should have won the second place and a vehicle, but had to return to Belize with only $5,000 in fuel as a prize.
