SanPedrana Mrs. Cecilia Lara celebrated her 100th birthday on Sunday November 9, 2014. Her many relatives organized a party for San Pedro community’s one and only centenarian; a party that included a huge five-tier cake, catering services of Celi’s Deli, hundreds of invited guests, champagne, a piñata, and many pleasant surprises.
Of interest on display at the celebration was a special birthday card with the photo and signature of Queen Elizabeth of England wishing Mrs. Cecilia a very special birthday. Another added touch of the party was the presence of renowned pianist/singer and entertainer of Chetumal, Quintana Roo. He delighted not only the birthday girl but all the invited guests who kept requesting for their favorite golden oldies and romantic ballads. Our centenarian herself requested songs like Cerca del Mar and Solamente Una Vez.
Emcee and toastmaster Angel Nuñez said he was privileged and honored that after over 150 quinceaños events, he finally had his very first toast to a centenarian. Mayor Danny Guerrero also offered a toast wishing his Auntie 100 more years and announcing that as of now all her medicinal expenses will be taken care of by the San Pedro Town Council.
The celebration continued throughout the afternoon, everyone celebrating her age, her good health and her great awareness and good memory. Ambergris Today joins the relatives and community in congratulating Doña Cecilia Lara on this milestone in her life and the social fabric of San Pedro and expresses special thanks to Mrs. Elsa Lara Valdez and Celina Valdez for putting such a great party for this wonderful Great Great Grandmother, auntie, sister, and friend.
