Autopsies Performed on Two Bodies Found in Shallow Grave, Ambergris Caye

The San Pedro Police department has its hands full today as investigations continue surrounding the discovery of two bodies in North Ambergris Caye on Wednesday, February 18, 2015. The SP Department states that there are still no leads or suspects in the case.

Today, Thursday, February 19, 2015, the bodies of 23-year-old Benjamin Molina and 41-year-old Sylvin Chi are undergoing an autopsy as a forensics team arrived from Belize City to conduct the procedure on the bodies that were in a second stage of decomposition.

Both bodies were discovered in a two-foot shallow grave about 11:40a.m. on February 18, in a property 11.5 miles in North Ambergris Caye. According to SP Police, both individuals were reported missing by their co-worker Jose Wagner, 51-year-old caretaker. The grave was located about 150 feet away from the beach.

Due to bad weather conditions on Wednesday, February 18, only preliminary observations were conducted on site and the bodies were brought to town the following day. Police have confirmed that both men had a single gunshot wound to the head and were both buried in the same grave next to each other. After the post mortem examination, authorities will bury the bodies at the southern cemetery of Ambergris Caye. The families of the deceased have been contacted and will be present for the burial.
