San Pedro Town Council Announces Councilor Portfolios

In a short ceremony to officially swear in the new members of the San Pedro Town Council, the announcement was made of the different portfolios each of the councilors, deputy mayor and mayor would carry and be responsible off.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at Central Park on Monday, March 16, 2015, where each councilor reiterated their dedication to the town of San Pedro and promised to work hard in the betterment for life on La Isla Bonita. Below are the portfolios of each member of the San Pedro Town Council:

DANIEL “DANNY” GUERRERO – MAYOR
Finance

a. To supervise and control all financial matters of the Council.
b. To supervise and control all tax collection and make changes where necessary.
c. Be responsible for the overall operation of the Council and maintain the Council members informed of the financial status of the Town with the assistance of the Town Administrator and Accountant.
d. Be a member of the Liquor Licensing Board.

Foreign Relation
a. Coordinate and establish Sister City Relationships.
b. Represent the Council along with the Mayor at events to establish foreign relation.
c. Assist in hosting delegates from other Countries on their visits to San Pedro.
d. Establish contacts in Embassies in order to lobby for grants.

Customer Services
a. Improving customer services throughout the various department.
b. Arranging training, seminars and/or workshops for Customer Service improvement.

Communications & Consultations Services

a. Ensure working relationship with all media houses.
b. Ensure the proper use of social media to promote Council activities.
c. Coordinate and participate in Talk shows as representative of the Council and as a mode of consultation with the general public.
d. Coordinate public consultation on Council projects that may require of these.

Ambergris Caye Master Plan

GARY GREIF–DEPUTY MAYOR
Tourism
a. Coordinate all aspects of the Council pertaining to Tourism.
b. Present proposals for improvement of the Ambergris Caye Tourist Information Center.
c. Create, coordinate and liaison with all tourism groups.
d. Represent the Council, when necessary, at Belize Tourism Board or Belize Tourism Industry Association events.

Environment
a. Analyze and recommend Dredging Permits.
b. Assist in the Community Beautification & Upkeep Portfolio.
c. Analyze and recommend Pier Permits.
d. Monitor and prepare proposals for the Municipal Pier and the environmental impact of the same.
e. Establish work relationship with the Ministry of the Environment and prepare proposals for amendments and improvements.

Public Relations
a. Market the Council locally.
b. Ensure participation in all public events.
c. Provide Ideas in promoting the Council’s achievements.
d. Research and prepare proposals for the improvement of service to the community.
e. Research on seminars or presenters that can offer workshops for the improvement in public relations.
f. Establish modes to educate the community of the role and responsibilities of the Council within the community.

Waste Management & Sanitation
a. To establish improvements in garbage collection.
b. To prepare proposals and feasibility studies for the expansion of sewer services.
c. Establish work relationship with Health Department and coordinate activities with the same.
d. To improve and conduct the operations of street and beach cleaning.

FLORA ANCONA–COUNCILOR
Public Events
a. To establish a committee for planning of  special events
b. Be responsible to report to the Council members the preparations of these events and request their c. participation.
d. Plan and coordinate these events with the assistance of the committee, Personal Assistant and Town Administrator, not exceeding the budget allocated for the pertaining event.

Human Development
a. Work along with social worker

Women Affairs
a. Develop programs for single mothers
b. Create a group for Women’s Affairs
c. Develop educational programs for Women in areas such as parenting, trades, etc.

RUBEN GONZALEZ – COUNCILOR
Economic Development

a. To attract new investments and development in order to provide more jobs and growth within the community.
b. Be member of the Trade Licensing Board.
c. Be responsible for small business initiative.
d. Regulate and control street vendors.

Revenue Collection
a. Keep up to date with the arrears in taxes and other revenue sources of the Council
b. Develop proposals and methods of improved revenue collection
c. Coordinate with Administrator plans of action for the improvement in revenue collection.

Health
a. Build public restrooms
b. Coordinator for Cemetery
c. Lobby for Public Morgue with pertaining departments
d. Assist at the Otto Rodriguez Polyclinic II
e. Develop committee for the improvement of Public Health

Education
a. Establish working relationship with all primary level schools.
b. Create and liaison with committees involved in education.
c. Organize the yearly school competitions.
d. Represent the Council when required in any school activity.

GABRIEL “GABY” NUNEZ – COUNCILOR
Public Utilities

a. Be a member of the Utilities Coordination Unit.
b. Ensure the public utility services are provided in the populated sectors of the island.
c. Ensure the lighting of Dark Areas by coordinating petitions etc. and addressing the issue with the Ministry of Public Utility and Ministry of Finance.

Housing & Planning
a. Be a member of the Ambergris Caye Local Building Authority.
b. Responsible for the naming, numbering and lighting of streets.

Community Protection & Safety
a. Be a member of the Safety Committee.
b. Assist in the Curfew and Special Constable Program.
c. Be involved with Neighbor Hood Watch Committees.
d. To coordinate work-a-ton with schools and NGOs.
e. Neighborhood Watch
f. Drug Awareness
g. Study, improve and supervise the efficient running of the Fire Services.
h. Launch clean-up campaigns.

NEMO
a. Cooperate with the coordinator before, during and after an emergency/natural disaster.
b. Attend all meetings and training sessions organized by NEMO.
c. Assist NEMO in educating the general public on NEMO and preparedness for natural disasters.

SEVERO “SEVERITO”GUERRERO– COUNCILOR
Transport

a. Be a member of the Ambergris Caye Traffic Control Committee.
b. Prepare proposals for amendments in the control of traffic, street closures etc.
c. Supervise Public Road Injury and report in order for repairs to be made.
d. Survey the opening of new roads and streets.
e. Supervise the placement of traffic signs.
f. Present proposal for amendments in the pertaining Act and follow up on such amendments.

Civic & Infrastructural Development
a. Study and recommend the establishment of new recreational areas, parks and cemetery.
b. Create proposals for new roads, bridges, drains, public buildings and schools.
c. Establish relationships with organizations that provide grants for infrastructural developments.
d. Establish relationship with the Ministry of Works.
e. Serve as advisor for the repairs of vehicles.
f. Coordinate with Foreman special duties for vehicles

Public Events
a. To establish a committee for planning of  special events
b. Be responsible to report to the Council members the preparations of these events and request their participation.
c. Plan and coordinate these events with the assistance of the committee, Personal Assistant and Town Administrator, not exceeding the budget allocated for the pertaining event.

Community Beautification& Upkeep
a. To coordinate landscaping and beautification of streets, parks, cemetery, and recreational areas.
b. To coordinate work-a-ton with schools and NGOs.
c. To create proposals for improvement in the upkeep and beautification of the island.

HECTOR “Tito” ALAMILLA – COUNCILOR
Sports

a. Coordinate all sporting events.
b. Create a committee for sports.
c. Work with all senior sports teams.
d. Facilitate the coordination of the use of the sporting facilities.

Youth Development
a. Create and liaison with committees involved with youths.
b. Prepare proposal for the increase in youth activities.
c. Establish youth support groups

Culture
a. Liaison with committees established with the various cultures.
b. Prepare proposals and establish the promotion of diverse cultures within the community.
c. Develop educational tools on the knowledge of several cultures
