The San Pedro Town Council, in an effort to improve the traffic conditions on the roads of San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, is requesting the full support and cooperation of all businesses that conduct deliveries within “Town”.
On March 10, 2016, the announcement was made that all deliveries conducted with bigger and hazardous/flammable vehicles are being requested to NOT deliver after 7a.m. (these include all construction equipment, backhoe, tractors, mixers, standard pick-up trucks, dump/container trucks, butane trucks, skytrak, freezer trucks, bobcats and all other vehicles considered heavy equipment, inclusive those towing boats or vehicles).
The areas to be affected are from the Zericote Street (north boundary of the San Pedro High School property) to Coconut Drive (at the cut-off with Manta Ray Street, by BWS office going to the Poly Clinic). This includes Barrier Reef Drive, Pescador Drive, part of Laguna Drive, all the adjacent streets and the beach areas. The recommended time for delivery is from 2a.m. to 7a.m. every day of the week.
The only vehicles that will be allowed to deliver at 7a.m. are Carry-All Golf Carts and motorized tricycles with a permit that can be applied for a the Traffic Department for a small annual fee. Any items or personal periodic deliveries also require a one-time permit that must also be obtained at the Traffic Department.
“Currently these types of vehicles are interrupting the traffic flow and creating more parking issues especially during the more demanding hours of the day,” stated the press release from the San Pedro Town Council. “Particularly on school days, we have found that these bigger vehicles are a hazard for the children going to school. With development, there has been a high demand for modes of transportations, whether it is for personal or business use, and the Council strongly believes that as a community we need to work hand-in-hand to make the traffic situation better for all. The San Pedro Town Council welcomes any recommendations and suggestions and further thank you for your full cooperation. For further information, feel free to contact us.”
These changes are to come into effect on Monday, April 11, 2016.
