On Tuesday, May 2, 2017, The San Pedro Police Department along with the North Ambergris Caye Neighborhood Watch and the San Pedro Town Council came together to inaugurate the North Side Police Booth.
The booth is located in the Tres Cocos area 1 1/2 miles north of the Boca del Rio Bridge and will give residents in North Ambergris Caye an easier and faster access to the Police Department.
Mayor Daniel Guerrero stated, “The opening of this police booth is a testament of the forged commitment from a cross section of partners. It is a testament that shows that working along with the community, a lot can be accomplished.”
Ensuring that the Town Council can put in place preventative measures, Mayor Guerrero stated that he is positive that this is not the last booth that will be open in key areas. He assured the Police Department the Council’s support.
Present in the ceremony was also Commander Eastern Police Division North Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Dezerie Phillips who commented, “We are striving for a more community oriented police department. This again is an example that we can show and really and truly experience a sense of police and community working together. We are learning that crime is everybody’s business and we need everybody to come together so that we can ensure that we have as much of a crime free community as we can.”
The Mayor of San Pedro, Daniel Guerrero and The North Ambergris Caye Neighborhood Watch took this opportunity hand in three motorcycles to the Police Department. Two were donated by the Town Council and one by the neighborhood watch.
Mayor Guerrero also noted that the Town Council has recently spent over $75,000 in the purchasing and installing of solar lights in key areas that the Police Department has identified as needed proper lighting. More funding is being sought for the purchasing of more solar lights that can benefit different areas and neighborhoods on Ambergris Caye.
