The San Pedro Traffic Wardens attended a ‘Partnership and Life Skills’ Workshop on Monday, April 8, 2019. The Workshop took place at the San Pedro Town Council conference room and was conducted by Rudolph Orio, Supt. (Ret’d) – National Coordinator Police Auxiliary Unit.
After a short and fun introductory icebreaker, Mr. Orio commenced his workshop on partnership explaining that a mutual relationship between distinct parties with a common objective of promoting safety and security of people. The training was based from the Traffic Safety Foundation of the three E’s; Education, Enforcement and Engineering.
Traffic enforcement has become a major concern throughout the country of Belize. There has been an increase in road traffic accidents despite the work by the Road Safety Project and highway patrols by the National Department of Transport. It is with all of this in mind that the workshop was conducted here in San Pedro.
The purpose to teach them life skills is to offer officers a way to improve their careers, make better decisions when they are in difficult negotiation situations, use of human and financial resources but most importantly up hold the law and maintain a good public image and relationship.
The Police Department will be working hand in hand with the traffic department to conduct better and more efficient check-points throughout the year. After the workshop had concluded, participants were given certificates for their participation. The traffic department will be holding more workshops for wardens to work better for a safer community.
